The backing plate can be mounted vertically or horizontally. You can decide how they want to set it up when they get it. It's an option for people who either don't want to spend the money on our deluxe radiused sidemount, or who want to be able to mount their plate horizontally, or for those who want to have the flexibility to choose beween vertical and horizontal.
